Yellowstone Club Skiing: Former Ski Racer Martin Bell Reviews “Private Powder” Experience
Yellowstone Club skiing offers the Big Sky Country’s only exclusive showcase of the area’s finest “Private Powder” slopes.
Unlike public ski areas, where fresh powder is elusive for all but the hardiest and early-rising skiers, the slopes at Yellowstone Club offer ample opportunities to be the first skier on a run—an attribute that owes to the club’s “members- and guests-only” access to its thousands of ski-able acres.
Former ski racer Martin Bell shares his review of Yellowstone Club skiing, which he describes as the “holy of holies of U.S. skiing” in a Guardian piece:
“I had become too conditioned by skiing at ‘normal’ ski areas; that is, ski areas that are actually open to the public, where you only have three ways of finding fresh powder: catching the first lift; ‘earning your turns’ by hiking; or heading deep into the forest, boldly slaloming between tree trunks. But I was lucky enough to be skiing at the members-only Yellowstone Club, whose motto, ‘Private Powder’, perfectly describes the skiing experience,” Bell writes.
“Pioneer Peak, where most of the club’s skiing is situated, is a real mountain. It tops out at just over 3,000m, with a vertical drop of 823m – quite respectable for a North American ski area – more than well-known resorts such as Alta or Alpine Meadows,” he adds. “Off the top ridge there’s a choice of several steep chutes above the tree line. Lower down the mountain there are groomed autobahns, and over the back are powdery glades, which is where I discovered that there was no need to ski too deep into the forest.”
Such “Private Powder” skiing is a key reason Yellowstone Club members return in winter months to enjoy the club’s family-friendly recreational activities. The club boasts legendary ski film producer Warren Miller as its honorary director of skiing, and offers the finest in luxury accommodations and dining and first-class staff and service for its members and their guests.
